What Are Ground Wasps?

HERE IS SOME GREAT INFORMATION ABOUT GROUND WASPS

Those Wasps who reside inside the ground are called ground Wasps. They can be recognized by their yellow and black strips on their body. Being one fourth and half inch long the ground Wasps build their habitat inside the ground with sufficient moisture and being in light textured color.

Their habitat despite being situated in the wet ground is build under sunny locations. The radius of ground Wasp’s habitat ranges from one to one and half inch. The ground Wasp’s habitat is built by the female Wasp with the additional assistance of male Wasps.

The food of the Ground Wasps are the basically the cicadas(a flying insect with sound). Ground Wasps, though are considered to be the same as other Wasps or Hornets, their dwellings and depending upon the Cicadas differs from other Wasps.
In accomplishing their habitat the ground Wasp first selects a location conducive for their ground nestle. The area they select happens to be covered with sufficient sun-light and mild in helping them easily drill a burrow to make their entry inside the ground and build their nestle conveniently.
16 eggs are laid at a time by the female Wasp in side the ground. Just after the eggs being laid inside the ground the nestle being escorted by the male Wasps is initiated. All the male Wasps keep a strict watch over each one approaching their ground-nestle and cause a fierce attack if seemed to cause any harm to their habitat.
If any such ground Wasp’s nestle is found to have been built near some residential locality, proper action to remove it is called for. Some insecticides like Sevin 5% garden dust or a diluted solution of Diazinon should be used by dropping them into the deep tunnel of ground Wasp.
The process of exterminating the Ground Wasp should be accomplished after the sunset as all the male Wasps enter their habitat in the dark. But any sign of being targeted even in the night can excite them overpowering the exterminator
